4 ways I’m “terrible” in business… and why I’m happy anyway

Running a business isn’t always about what looks “smart” on paper. Sometimes it’s about the little choices that make your space feel welcoming, supportive, and human.

1️⃣ The most asked question! - swipe to see what it is! 😉
2️⃣ Free welcome bags – Because a little thoughtful extras can go a long way. Grip socks, scrunchies, and little feel-good bits that make your day easier and more fun.
3️⃣ Not selling personalised grip socks – I love them, but going barefoot in class builds proprioception, grip, and feedback. Sometimes what’s good for the body beats what’s profitable.
4️⃣ Free drinks if you need them – Especially for parents & babies, because a warm drink can make a huge difference. Comfort over commerce.

At the end of the day, our goal isn’t just to run a business. It’s to create a calming space where you can move your body with confidence, feel seen, and be heard. That’s worth far more than a perfectly executed profit margin.

This time last year, with a 3-month-old in my arms, I was passionately telling anyone who would listen about leaving my career to build a studio that felt like a sanctuary.
A space for mums to move their bodies and find their people.
A place where complete beginners — and those overwhelmed by big studios — could walk in and feel confident, no matter their age, size, or ability.
A safe, guided space for anyone returning from injury who needed to feel supported.

And wow… looking back now, the reality is even better than I ever imagined.

None of this would be possible without the incredible people who bring the studio to life every day

✨ Let’s talk SPRINGS on the Reformer ✨

Springs aren’t random. They’re a huge part of how an exercise works.

🔹 Springs change the tension in an exercise, not just the difficulty.
🔹 Classic reformers traditionally use 4 springs of the same tension.
🔹 Our studio reformers are contemporary, with different coloured springs for different tensions.

For classical exercises, there are set spring tensions, and we stick to these as closely as possible, because they’re there for a reason.

Sometimes a spring may feel “light”, and that’s intentional. These are the moments where the work shifts away from muscle fatigue and towards:
• Technique
• Alignment
• Control
• Precision
• Deep connection to your centre

It’s not about pushing harder… it’s about moving smarter.

🌱 Spring tensions can change when:
• We want to add challenge (yes, sometimes lighter = harder!)
• We’re adapting for injuries
• Pre or post-partum needs
• Individual bodies and goals

If anything doesn’t feel right, or you’re just curious, always ask your instructor. We’re happy to explain and adjust.

💡 Top tip:
Next time it feels “too light”, really tune in and listen to your instructor’s cues. That’s often where the real work begins. 💫

2 of my favourite feet-in-straps moves to mobilise the hips and spine 💫

✨ Leg Circles — a beautiful way to increase hip mobility while maintaining pelvic stability. Focus on control through the full range and keeping the centre engaged so the movement truly comes from the hip joint, not the lower back.

✨ Short Spine — one of my favourites for spinal articulation. Work through the movement with precision: lift with the abdominals, articulate the spine one vertebra at a time, and use the springs to support rather than fling you over. With version 2, we really focus on opening up the lower back and hips — and it just feels delightful.

These two classics are brilliant for reconnecting with movement quality and control — a reminder that mobility and strength always go hand in hand.

We’ve also welcomed some gorgeous new mums into our baby groups, had high-energy Barre and Bend sessions, and finished strong with Kara’s Mat Pilates, bringing that beautiful focus and control back to the body.

But Bambu isn’t just about the classes. It’s about community.
When you step into the studio, you’re not just another face — you’re part of something warm, supportive, and real. You’ll be welcomed, listened to, and hopefully leave a little lighter than when you came in.

This week marks Baby Loss Awareness Week — a time to remember the precious little ones who are no longer with us, and to raise awareness for all those who have experienced pregnancy or baby loss.

As a studio, we’ve always vowed to be a safe haven for mums, and we want to remind you that this extends to all mums — including those whose babies are held in their hearts rather than their arms. 💕

To honour this week, we’ll have a Remembrance Tree in the studio where you can hang a ribbon — whether to remember a loved one or simply to show your support and raise awareness. 🌸

There will also be opportunities to donate to charities that provide incredible support to families through such difficult times.

Joseph Pilates once said, “Above all, learn to breathe correctly.” So many of his exercises revolve around helping us do just that — and The Hundred is a perfect example.

Yes, this classic move has a lot going on (my regulars will know what I mean 😅), but at its core, it’s about the breath. We aim for 10 rounds: inhale for 5, exhale for 5 — and that’s where the name comes from.

In some classes, your Hundred might simply mean lying on the mat, tuning into your breath. In others, you might explore the full version — that beautiful levitation where mind and body connect (and your abs definitely feel it 🔥).
